To promote adoption of conservation practices, Lafayette Ag Stewardship Alliance (LASA) is offering cost-share funds to farmers to do trials of cover-crop plantings. This program has two options:
First time cover crop option open to farmers who are not members of LASA: $50 per acre for up to 20 acres. This will be field scale demonstration for a farmer to experience cover crops. This is an ideal way to understand the management shift necessary to utilize cover crops.
LASA members who are using cover crops can try something “new” on a portion of a field in the fall of 2020. The program will provide $100/acre (maximum 10 acres) for the trial. Examples: planting different species such as adding sunflowers, radishes, legumes to the seed mix; terminating the cover crop after spring 2021 corn or soybeans; using an inter-seeder to plant the cover crop before fall harvest of soybeans or corn silage.
